Census Figures Show Weak Washington Area Growth
The Census Bureau reported last week that Greater Washington's
population barely increased last year, continuing a pattern of weak growth since the start of this decade. Most of the nation's fastest-growing metropolitan areas are in the South and West.
According to one unscientific survey, March Madness could cost American companies as much as $1.7 billion in lost productivity this year, as workers waste time filling out office pools and watching the tournament on the Internet instead of working. But not everyone agrees.
Also, managers can be a great asset to an organization. They can teach new employees, and they can learn from their protégés along the way. Many Baby Boomers who had hoped to retire in their mid-fifties to mid-sixties have discovered they cannot yet afford to. Getting together for drinks after work with your officemates is not always a good idea.
